Cultures Around Africa

Cultures around Africa

If you ask me what is the most diverse continent on earth, the answer I would give you is Africa because as how I would view Africa is that the continent itself has many unique and distinctive people, tribes, languages, food and etc. I don’t know about you but it is my lifelong dream to explore the whole continent if I am able to because I feel Africa just has so much offer and many of us are overlooking everything about what this beautiful continent. I also feel that Africa as a whole is so underrated in the aspects of tourism because we can all agree that the media has portrayed this continent in many negative ways, blocking the positive sides of this breathtaking continent.
Let me broaden your horizon for as to why more attention should be garnered to this side of the world. Countries like Eritrea in the African continent which is also known as ‘Italy in Africa’ is a country in Africa that was colonized by Italians. The specialty about this country is that even after 45 years, the country’s has a strong influence by the Italians who used to settled there as the people, food, language are all Italian based. Even their cars!

That’s why I think people would be surprised if you told them there are 2 Italian countries on earth; it’s not every day that you can find ‘Italy in Africa’.
The next country I would like to share is the country called Comoros in horn of Africa. The country’s main religion is Islam and 99% of the locals are practicing it. What makes Comoros so attractive is that there are 820,000 mixed ethnicity living on this land and among themselves are the people who are of the combinations of east African, Arabic and French features; most people there tend to speak at least 3 languages fluently such as French, Shikomoro and Arabic. However, French is widely spoken among the people as the country has been colonized by France for a long time but the culture feels more Swahili than ever like Kenya or Tanzania. In case you didn’t know the term ‘Hakuna Matata’, it derived from the movie Lion King in Swahili. Did you know? The world’s biggest active volcano is located here and it’s called ‘Mount Karthala’.
The last country I’m sharing for now is South Sudan and it is the world’s youngest as well as newest country. On the other hand, what makes this country so special in many ways is it’s biggest ethnic group that exists in the country, known as the ‘Dinka tribe’. The cultures and lifestyle of the people there is all according to the tribe as it is well-followed and practiced by the people. Another thing about ‘Dinka tribe’ is that they all have beautiful homogeneous features. For instance, very skinny, dark and tall standing over at least 7 feet tall as they are also known to be the tallest humans on earth which is creepy and fascinating at the same time. The country has mostly Christians and they own cows which is just as valuable as money for them in which they use to exchange or trade goods just like the old times.
