Wishlist for 2021

Hi there! I’m Jasmyne, I can’t believe that it’s already 2021, and the year 2020 went by so fast in a blink of an eye. I think I’m pretty much just like any other young adult out there who thought that 2020 was the year for changes and more exploration, and sadly there really was a huge change in 2020 not just for me but for the whole world. As we all know, Covid-19 affected everyone’s lives, many lost their job, companies and schools were forced to close, and then we had to adjust ourselves to the “new norm” where we had to wear face masks, keep our distances from people and to wash our hands on a daily and basis. Indeed 2020 was a tough year to get by, but we managed to pull ourselves through.

I don’t ask for much in 2021, I hope is that things will get better with time and everyone can carry on with their lives like they used to. I hope that students will be able to attend school again and to be with their friends. I also hope that I can hang out with my friends in college like how I used to and travel with my family during the holidays.

Let’s be honest, Covid-19 may or may not end any time sooner but know that the sun will always shine after the storm. Even if we have to get used to the new norm, we have to carry on with our lives daily. So, I’m going to end my 2021 wish list here with my favorite quote from my favorite K-pop group ‘BTS’.

The Year I Peaked

My Prime Year I was scrolling my Facebook feed when this showed up in my Facebook Memories. This particular picture taken from Mass Comm Society’s official Facebook page from 2018 from their album titled “Hollywood Night: Trip Down The Memory Lane.” If memory serves me correct, this was the second Member’s Gathering by MCS that year, and the one thing that attracted me to this picture was my long hair tied up in a ponytail. My hair was also thick, which is a far cry from my thinning hairline today. Seeing me in this form today instantly triggered something within my brain and made me come to the realisation that 2018 was the year where I was in my prime – something I definitely have taken for granted, or that I have completely forgotten considering what I ended up going through between then and now. Have you ever wondered? About what, you may ask? About the language we speak? Isn't it strange that everyone around the world, ourselves included, simply put our trust into the people who taught us the language that we speak, write and even think in? When we were growing up, we blindly believed the information that others may have told us. And when we questioned them, some valid reasons were provided but most often, we were told that we'd understand when we grew older. But, for some unknown reasons, I still question many things in life, simpler ones such as colors, for instance. Why is blue called blue? And green called green? Why is anything named and called the way it is? Thus, in my opinion, our culture has shaped humankind into what we are now. These information had its origins and were passed down for generations till it reached us today.
