Celebrities…Who Are They to Us???
Celebrities…Who Are They to Us???
An agent of socialization. When we break into groups in various settings, I’m pretty sure everyone
has experienced those moments where no one is sure what to talk about. So thank god for the topic
of celebrities that keep the conversation going with people we first meet!
An instrument of bonding. Have you seen a group of friends click so well just because they’re
learning dance moves to their favorite K-pop group? Or maybe you’re one of them too!
A break from reality. Sometimes, we get so absorbed into the lives of the public figures we follow
until we don’t realize it’s nothing like our own.
A chance to learn about the diversity of cultures. Oftentimes, the celebrities we idolize aren’t always
Malaysians now are they are? Americans, Koreans, Japanese, Italians, and the list goes on. This gives
us insight as to how their culture has shaped them and opens our eyes to how other cultures differ
from ours.
A go-to for entertainment. On our phones, we go to watch our celebrities sing, dance, and make
commentaries. A stellar way to take our minds off a load of assignments, group discussions,
rehearsals, video presentations, test memorizing, and well…you name it!
A trendsetter. When was the last time your purchased a piece of clothing, pair of shoes, or piece of
jewelry was influenced by the celebrity you adorn over? ; )
A voice to the unheard. We follow celebrities who embody what we choose to believe in. They are a
representation of our thoughts and beliefs. In tragic times with circulating issues such as hate crime
on media, they speak on behalf of those unheard.
All in all, they are a part of our lives and they play an important role in impacting us by shaping the
the way we think whether we’re aware of it or not.
