Celebrity Fascination

 Are We The Problem?

We all have a handful of people that we idolize — actors and actresses, artists, performers, youtubers, influencers, and many more. Sometimes, or should I say almost all the time, we treat them as if they are everything, to an extent akin to royalty even.
I can confidently say that we personally know or know of people who obsess over these celebrities as if it’s the last supply of oxygen on Earth. But, I’m not here to shame anyone’s preferences or lifestyles. Rather, I would like us to take the time and ponder over the following sentences even a minute would be sufficient.
Here goes: Why are we so caught up in the lives of other people, especially celebrities? Have you noticed that simple, personal matters of celebrities, when exposed to the public eye, us, it becomes scandalous? Regardless of the content of the topic?

Take this for instance; when people figure out that celebrities are in a relationship, why is it that backlash occurs? Why is it that we feel the necessity to include our comment on said relationship? It is quite common for the public to bash various celebrity relationships; and why so? Isn’t it quite fascinating, and truthfully tragic, how nosy some people are and can become when news related to celebrities arise? Logically, we aren’t involved in the relationship yet, we readily criticize it.

Not to mention the people who anticipate this news; just for them to hate and, excuse my language, crap on them. Personally, I believe these haters are angry at the world, maybe for the suffering that they may have endured or because of the ingrained insecurity they experience. You may see other reasons or disagree with me, but I think we can all uniformly agree that this behavior is toxic and should be ceased.

I think the fact that celebrities are indefinitely humans escape our minds too. We treat them as if it is mandatory for them to entertain us; their lives and jobs exist to humor us and fill up the empty spaces in our days. Under the constant scrutiny of everyone, it is almost as if the feelings of celebrities are often neglected. For them, it becomes a constant cycle of pleasing everyone, to the extent that they cannot live their personal lives, be it relationships or other matters, in peace.

Perhaps, we step off the wagon of the instant cancel culture that we practice and give celebrities a break. It is exhausting for both parties to experience this condescending warfare. Notice how in the recent years, suicide rates among celebrities have increased, especially in the K-Pop industry? Don’t get me wrong, I am not in any way blaming us for it but I think we, as fans, play a role in it; we may have, unintentionally, trapped and cornered them to the point where they crave relief and freedom.

We all have issues that we struggle with, but we should take the initiative to be nicer to people, celebrities included, and not be so quick to hate on their lives, or very existence – hidden behind the persona they portrayed may lay a broken puppet instead.

Of course, there are many celebrities thoroughly loved by everyone but perhaps we should do so for all celebrities, too? What do you think?
