The best Christmas present (tercet)

Yet again Christmas is passing by,

Giving me another reason to cry,

These bitter tears can never seem to dry.

 

It’s gut-wrenching being such a burden,

Having to fight anxiety like the Battle of Verdun,

My life is like a film directed by Tim Burton.

 

Though these eerie days may be cold,

An inevitable forthcoming was foretold,

About a release from this burning chokehold.

 

I would have a bright glow like fluorescence,

Without downing another antidepressant,

Happiness would be the best Christmas present.

The Year I Peaked

My Prime Year I was scrolling my Facebook feed when this showed up in my Facebook Memories. This particular picture taken from Mass Comm Society’s official Facebook page from 2018 from their album titled “Hollywood Night: Trip Down The Memory Lane.” If memory serves me correct, this was the second Member’s Gathering by MCS that year, and the one thing that attracted me to this picture was my long hair tied up in a ponytail. My hair was also thick, which is a far cry from my thinning hairline today. Seeing me in this form today instantly triggered something within my brain and made me come to the realisation that 2018 was the year where I was in my prime – something I definitely have taken for granted, or that I have completely forgotten considering what I ended up going through between then and now. Have you ever wondered? About what, you may ask? About the language we speak? Isn't it strange that everyone around the world, ourselves included, simply put our trust into the people who taught us the language that we speak, write and even think in? When we were growing up, we blindly believed the information that others may have told us. And when we questioned them, some valid reasons were provided but most often, we were told that we'd understand when we grew older. But, for some unknown reasons, I still question many things in life, simpler ones such as colors, for instance. Why is blue called blue? And green called green? Why is anything named and called the way it is? Thus, in my opinion, our culture has shaped humankind into what we are now. These information had its origins and were passed down for generations till it reached us today.
